how do you say “puppy” in Hebrew?

כְּלַבְלַב, גּוּר כְּלָבִים

The Hebrew word for dog is כלב for a male and כלבה for a female.

Using the basic word, a puppy is a כלבלב or a כלבלבה , for a male and female respectively.

For example:

אימצנו כלבלב.

We adopted a (male) puppy.

But a more commonly-used term for puppy is גור כלבים – literally, a cub of dogs – or simply גור for a male and גורה for a female.

For example:

הכלבה שלנו המליטה שישה גורים!

Our dog gave birth to six puppies!
