How to Say “Against One’s Will” in Hebrew – Ulpan La-Inyan
נֶגֶד רְצוֹנוֹ
The Hebrew word for against is נגד
, as in:
הם מפגינים נגד הרפורמה המשפטית.
They are demonstrating against the judicial reform.
While רוצה
means want, רצון
means will. Add an ending to רצון
to specify whose will you’re talking about:
רצוני
– my will
רצונה
– her will
רצונו
– his will
Etc.
Thus “against his will” is נגד רצונו
.
For example:
זה לא תמיד חכם לחגוג למישהו יום הולדת נגד רצונו.
It’s not always wise to celebrate someone’s birthday against his will.
Substitute the ending on רצונו
to specify someone other than “him.” Watch today’s video for practice.
