how to say “balanced” in Hebrew
מְאוּזָּן
Our ears – אוזניים
– are what allow us to hear, but they also give us a sense of balance. Hence the Biblical word מאזניים
– a scale (for weights and balances).
Modern Hebrew draws upon these Biblical words to produce the abstract word איזון
– balance.
For example:
צריך למצוא את האיזון הנכון בין עבודה ופנאי.
(One) needs to find the right balance between work and leisure.
איזון
is the noun form of the
פיעל
verb
לאזן
– to balance. Something “balanced” is מאוזן
, the
passive פועל
form
of לאזן
.
For example:
ארוחת בוקר מאוזנת משפיעה לטובה על כל היום.
A balanced breakfast has a good effect on the whole day.
