How to Say “Handmade” in Hebrew – Ulpan La-Inyan
עֲבוֹדַת יָד
To do or to make, in Hebrew, is the
simple verb
לעשות
, as in:
מה אתם עושים הערב?
What are you guys doing this evening?
– and –
הם עשו בלגן בחדר.
They made a mess in (their) room.
But the Hebrew expression for “handmade” doesn’t use עשייה
– making, but rather עבודה
– work. The term is עבודת יד
– literally, work of (the) hand.
For example:
כל המוצרים בחנות הם עבודת יד.
All the products in the shop are handmade.
In this “of” expression (work “of” the hand), the ה
in עבודה
becomes a ת
.
