how to say “Lasik” in Hebrew

הֲסָרַת מִשְׁקָפַיִם

Lasik is a brand, but like Kleenex, it also refers to the thing itself – laser eye surgery. In Hebrew people call this ניתוח להסרת משקפיים surgery for removing glasses, or simply הסרת משקפיים – glasses removal. Sometimes the expression has the word לייזר – laser – in there for people who aren’t familiar with the operation.

For example:

עשיתי ניתוח לייזר להסרת משקפיים.

I did Lasik.

This is a rare example of where Hebrew is wordier than English.

Here’s the expression הסרת משקפיים broken down:

הסרת – removal of, where הסרה is simply removal

משקפיים glasses
