how to say “no one” in Hebrew
אִישׁ לֹא
The basic term for “nobody” in Hebrew is אף אחד לא
– literally, even one not.
For example:
אף אחד לא אישר את הזימון!
Nobody confirmed the invite!
A fancier term you’ll hear in the news and read in the paper is איש לא,
sometimes לא… איש.
For example:
איש לא ידע את מה שהוא ידע.
No one knew what he knew.
and
מה שקורה בפנים, לא מעניין פה איש.
That which is happening inside doesn’t interest anyone here.
איש
means literally man, but the expression applies to both sexes.
Note that in order to express the “no” in “nobody” or “no one”, לא
must appear. The same goes for “anyone”, as in the last example above.
