how to say “poet” in Hebrew

מְשׁוֹרֵר

We’ve seen that שיר means song, and שירה means poetry.

poet is a משורר if he’s male and משוררת if she’s female.

For example:

למה התכוון המשורר עם השיר הזה?

What did the poet intend with this poem?

In the word משורר you can see what looks like a four-letter root: ש.ו.ר.ר , yet the root of שיר is ש.י.ר . Here we see a a tendency in Hebrew to double the last letter of a root (in this case the ר ), if the middle root letter is a י or ו (almost-vowels).

After having studied literature and linguistics on the bachelors level and psychology on the masters, Ami decided to draw upon his hobby of learning languages, his understanding of human thought processes and his skill of explaining complex ideas in simple terms, to found a program that enables people to speak Hebrew with confidence.
