how to say “points” in Hebrew
נְקוּדוֹת
The Hebrew word for point is נקודה
. Just like in English, it can refer to points in a game or mileage program…
אני טס בזול בזכות הנקודות שלי באל על.
I fly cheap thanks to my points on El Al.
…or to a point one is trying to make, as in:
אולי בעוד חצי שעה הוא יגיע לנקודה.
Maybe in half an hour he’ll get to the point.
Now, נקודה is a proper Semitic term. Israelis sometimes use פואנטה
to refer to the point that someone is trying to make, as in:
אבל זאת לא הפואנטה!
But that’s not the point!
