How to Say “Relaxation” in Hebrew – Ulpan La-Inyan

In English, Elsa from Disney’s Frozen sings “let it go, let it go!” In Hebrew, she sings !לשחרר, לשחרר
, since the פיעל verb לשחרר
means “to let go” or “to release”.

Another word for “to let go” is the הפעיל verb להרפות
, of the root ר.פ.י.
This is more about letting go of a burden, relaxing. Thus relaxation is הרפייה
, as in:
עכשיו נעשה הרפייה – כולם לעצום עיניים ולשים לב לנשימה.
Now we’ll do (a) relaxation – everyone close your eyes and pay attention to your (the) breath.
