פְּרִיכִיּוֹת אוֹרֶז
A literal translation of rice cakes to Hebrew would be עוגות אורז.
But that’s not how we refer to those calorie-saving snacks. Rather, we call them פריכיות אורז,
where פריכיות
are “little crisps.”
For example:
כל יום היא אוכלת פריכיות אורז עם חמאת בוטנים.
Every day she eats rice cakes with peanut butter.
פריכיות
come from פריך,
meaning “crispy” or “brittle.” These words came into use only in the modern era, though they may be based on the Biblical פרך
meaning “great difficulty.”
