הַקְרָבָה
The word for sacrificial offering in Biblical Hebrew is קורבן,
as in:
בני ישראל היו מביאים קורבנות לבית המקדש.
The Children of Israel would bring sacrifices to the Temple.
Given the fact that the animal would lose its life at the altar, Israelis today use קורבן
to refer to a victim.
For example:
היא נפלה קורבן לעקיצה.
She fell victim to a scam.
So קרבן
today largely means victim. How, then, do Israelis refer to a (non-animal) sacrifice? They take the (

verb
) להקריב
– to sacrifice – and its noun הקרבה.
For example:
אחרי ששתי בנות והאם נהרגו באותו פיגוע, ההקרבה של המשפחה הזאת היא בלתי נתפסת.
After two daughters and the mother were killed in the same terror attack, the sacrifice of this family is unfathomable.
