To serve, in Hebrew, is the
פיעל verb
לשרת
.
For example:
כשהיא הייתה בצבא היא שירתה בחיל המודיעין.
When she was in the army she served in the Intelligence Unit.
Service is שירות
, as in:
החשבון הוא תשעים שקל, לא כולל שירות.
The bill is ninety shekels, not including service.
What about service-minded or service-orientedness? That’s שירותיות
.
For example:
ישראל התקדמה בשירותיות בשנים האחרונות, אבל עדיין יש לאן לשאוף.
Israel has improved in its service-orientedness in recent years, but there’s still where to aspire to.
