How to Say “Slip Of The Tongue” in Hebrew – Ulpan La-Inyan
פְּלִיטַת פֶּה
To emit – in Hebrew – is the
simple verb
לפלוט
. Likewise, emission is פליטה
, as in:
שריפת פחם גורמת לפליטת חומר מסוכן לאטמוספרה.
Burning coal causes the emission of dangerous material to the atmosphere.
But פליטה
refers not only to the emission of physical matter, but also to the verbal stuff that comes out of our mouths. Thus פליטת פה
– literally, blurting of the mouth, is Hebrew’s expression for a slip of the tongue.
For example:
אני מצטערת. זאת הייתה פליטת פה לא במקום.
I’m (a female) sorry. It was a misplaced slip of the tongue.
