How to Say “The Greatest Generation” in Hebrew – Ulpan La-Inyan

That generation of women and men, boys and girls, who rose up from the ashes of Europe, made their way to what was called Palestine (by the Romans, after the ancient Philistines) at the time and revived Jewish sovereignty in this land for the first time in almost 2000 years – that generation is called in Hebrew דור המייסדים
– the generation of the founders, but also, דור הנפילים
– the generation of the Nephilim… or the Greatest Generation.

What are נפילים
? If you look at the word, perhaps you see its root – נ.פ.ל
, meaning “falling.” נפילים
, in the Bible, are extraterrestrial beings that visited the earth – “fell to the earth” – mingled with human women, and begot offspring of exceptional might, stature and character.

The people who founded the modern State of Israel have received this awe-inspired title – דור הנפילים
.
For example:
חסרים לנו היום אנשים מדור הנפילים.
We are missing today people from the Great Generation.
