How to Say “Together We Will Win” in Hebrew – Ulpan La-Inyan

One of the morale-boosting slogans of this war (featured in our video of messages from our teachers and staff) has been יחד ננצח
or, alternatively, ביחד ננצח
. Since יחד
and ביחד
are used interchangeably, both versions of the slogan mean the same thing.
This is Your Daily Dose of Hebrew, so I’ll give a full-sentence example instead of sufficing with the slogan:
רק ביחד ננצח את המלחמה הנוראית אבל צודקת הזאת.
Only together will we win this terrible but just war.
ננצח
is a form of לנצח – to win
, a פיעל verb. לנצח
also means to oversee, to conduct (an orchestra, for example), which is the original biblical meaning. In Mishnaic times people started using לנצח
not mean not just to oversee but to overcome – in order words, to win.
