How to Say “Unless” in Hebrew – Ulpan La-Inyan

Hebrew’s way of saying “unless” uses three words: אלא אם כן
. They mean literally “rather if so”.
An example:
אלא אם כן תודיעי לי אחרת, אני אגיע בשמונה.
Unless you (a female) let me know otherwise, I’ll be there (arrive) at eight.
In print, you might see אלא אם כן
appearing as an acronym: אא”כ
.
Some people shorten the expression to אלא אם
, dropping the כן
part.
