how to say “clinic” in Hebrew

מִרְפָּאָה, קְלִינִיקָה

How do you say clinic in Hebrew? Depends on what kind.

The medical kind is a מרפאה , coming from the root ר.פ.א , which means healing. You may recognize it from רופא – doctor.

For example, the receptionist at the clinic might answer the phone with:

מרפאה שלום, מדברת סמדר.

(Medical) clinic, hello, Smadar speaking.

Likewise, a dental clinic is מרפאת שיניים .

A non-medical clinic, however, is a קליניקה .

For example:

היא רק סיימה תואר שני בפסיכולוגיה וכבר יש לה קליניקה.

She only just finished a Masters in psychology and she already has a clinic (private practice).

What about a basketball clinic? That’s already חוג כדורסל – basketball (extracurricular) activity.

After having studied literature and linguistics on the bachelors level and psychology on the masters, Ami decided to draw upon his hobby of learning languages, his understanding of human thought processes and his skill of explaining complex ideas in simple terms, to found a program that enables people to speak Hebrew with confidence.
