נְחִישׁוּת
Today we have נחישות
— determination. While being החלטי
–
decisive
– is about the moment of choice, נחישות
is about the long-term grit to see it through.
The root is נ.ח.ש.
You might recognize it from the word נחושת
— copper or brass — which appears in the Torah portion of the week. Just like the metal, נחישות
refers to a steely or brazen resolve. This is the quality we continue to see in the soldiers in the skies and on the front lines.
In context:
צריך הרבה נחישות כדי לשמור על שגרה במצב כזה.
It takes a lot of determination to maintain a routine in such a situation.
The word נחישות
— determination is a
Level 6
word in the Ulpan La-Inyan system.
