קָהָל
The Hebrew word for audience is quite an ancient one, as Moses would address the audience – הַקָּהָל
listen and repeat – of the wandering People of Israel for forty years in the desert.
A modern example:
הַקָּהָל מַקְשִׁיב.
The audience is listening.
The root ק.ה.ל (k.h.l) is a very useful one, lending itself to the creation of words such as קְהִלָּה
listen and repeat – community, הִתְקַהֲלוּת
listen and repeat – one of the terms for a crowd, and מַקְהֵלָה
listen and repeat – a choir.
