The Hebrew word for a coincidence is מקרה
. This word also means situation or case, as in בכל מקרה
– anyway / in any case.
For example:
טוב, בכל מקרה, נדבר מאוחר יותר.
Well, in any case, we’ll talk later.
Suppose your friend always consults you about what their daily lunch should be. You might suggest that they vary their meal: what they should eat depends on what they feel like eating on each particular day. Here you might use the expression כל מקרה לגופו
– each case (feel like dairy, spicy, sushi today) its own.
Or, in the office:
אי אפשר לקבל החלטה גורפת לגבי כולם – צריך לטפל בכל מקרה לגופו.
It is impossible to make a blanket decision about everyone – each case must be dealt with on its own merits.
The expression broken down:
כל
– every
מקרה
– case
לגופו
-to itself (literally, to its body)
