לוּחַ בַּקָּרָה
The formal name for a dashboard is לוח בקרה
. The root ב.ק.ר
is common in Hebrew: it appears in the
פיעל verb
לבקר
– to visit, also meaning to criticize, giving us ביקורת
–
criticism
, and inspection/monitoring – בקרה
.
The dashboard is literally a “control board” where you monitor the car’s vitals. Of course, most Israelis just call it a דשבורד
. We usually only look at the לוח בקרה
when a scary red light starts לבקר
(visiting) us, telling us we should have gone to the garage a month ago.
In context:
נדלקה לי מנורה מוזרה בלוח הבקרה, זה נראה רציני?
A strange light turned on (for me) in the dashboard, does it look serious?
