Have you ever met an Israeli who described his hamburger as “very delicious”? That’s because technically, the Hebrew word טעים
means both the moderate “tasty” and the emphatic “delicious.”
But that’s technically. To make sure the person whose food you’re complimenting feels flattered, add מאוד
, as in:
המרק הזה טעים מאוד.
This soup is delicious. (very tasty)
Or better yet:
המרק הזה נורא טעים!
This soup is delicious! (terribly tasty)
You could also substitute נורא
with ממש
– really, so you have:
הפשטידה הזאת ממש טעימה!
This pie-quiche is delicious! (really tasty)
