The official Hebrew word for a DJ is תקליטן
.
It comes from the word תקליט
, which means a vinyl record. Even though most DJs today use digital controllers or laptops, the profession is still named after the old-school records.
You’ll find that in Israel, most people will just use the English “DJ” – דיג’יי
– in casual conversation, but you’ll see תקליטן
written on wedding invitations or business websites.
In context:
אנחנו מחפשים תקליטן טוב למסיבה שלנו ביום שישי.

We are looking for a good DJ for our party on Friday.
