שַׁעַר חֲלִיפִין, שַׁעַר יַצִּיג
The Hebrew root ח.ל.פ (kh.l.p) means changing over, so that חליפין
listen and repeat describes the exchange of quantities of goods or monies. With שַׁעַר
listen and repeat meaning gate or that which things come and go through, שער חליפין
listen and repeat is one of the official Hebrew terms for exchange rate. The other is שער יַצִּיג
listen and repeat – literally representative rate, as the exchange rate is representative for a particular day.
These terms, however, are typically shortened to simply שער – gate or rate – as in:
שַׁעַר הַדּוֹלָר הַיּוֹם מִתְקָרֵב לְשַׁעַר הָאֵירוֹ.
The dollar (exchange) rate today is approaching the euro rate.
