How to Say “Fancy” in Hebrew – Ulpan La-Inyan

Hebrew has plenty of words for splendor – פאר, הדר, הוד
, etc. Today we don’t tend to use such words in day-to-day conversation, but we do use a derivative of פאר
– the word מפואר
– fancy or luxurious.
For example:
הם זכו בלוטו ובנו וילה גדולה ומפוארת על הים.
They won the lottery and built a big fancy villa on the sea.
מפואר
sounds a lot like מכוער
, but don’t confuse the two. מכוער
means ugly. Both words follow the פועל form.
