The Hebrew word for resource is משאב
, while in the plural it’s משאבּים
(with a hard b sound).
For example:
אין לנו מספיק משאבים כדי להשלים את הפרויקט.
We don’t have enough resources to finish the project.
משאב
comes from the simple verb לשאוב
– to draw forth (from a resource). You might recognize the word from the biblical verse:
ושאבתם מים בששון ממעייני הישועה. (ישעיהו י”ב, ג’)
And you shall draw forth water with joy, from the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12:3)
What about human resources? That’s משאבי אנוש
, where אנוש
is the prototypical biblical word for human.
For example:
היא אחראית על משאבי אנוש בארגון.
She is in charge of (responsible for) human resources at the organization.
