בְּ..., בְּתוֹךְ
Many people start their Hebrew journey with the mini-word ב
, which simply means “in.”
In context:
איפה הוא נמצא עכשיו? באנגליה??
Where is he (located) now? In England??
But when you want to emphasize that something is physically inside a container or a closed space, you’ll use בתוך
, as in:
המפתחות בתוך התיק שלי.
The keys are inside my bag.
The word תוך
actually means “interior” or “middle.” You might recognize it from תיכון
as in המזרח התיכון
(the Middle East) or בית ספר תיכון
(
high school
). While -ב
is a prefix and is always attached to the rest of the word (באנגליה
, for example), בתוך
acts more like a standalone preposition (בתוך התיק שלי
).
