You might be thinking that I’m going to present the super-Israeli statement of optimism when there may not be much place for it: יהיה בסדר – it’ll be okay.
But no, today I want to teach an expression even more uniquely Israeli: שלום על ישראל. Literally, it means “peace be upon Israel.” But practically, it’s “it’ll be fine” in the sense of “let it go, it’s gonna be fine.”
For example:
נו, תפסיק להתבחבש – שלח את המייל ושלום על ישראל!
Come on, stop deliberating (and not getting anywhere) – send the email and peace be upon Israel (it’ll be fine)!
This phrase first appears in the biblical book of Psalms.
