One of the Hebrew words for box is תיבה
. This is the more archaic word – it appears in the biblical תיבת נח
– Noah’s Ark, among other stories. Today it usually refers to a special kind of box, such as תיבת אוצר
– a treasure chest, or תיבת פנדורה
– Pandora’s Box, that mythical box of demons.
For example:
ההערה שלה פתחה תיבת פנדורה של נושאים כואבים ולא פתורים.
Her comment opened a Pandora’s box of painful and unresolved topics.
Note that it’s תיבת פנדורה
and not תיבה פנדורה
. That’s because תיבת
literally means “box of,” so the ה
in תיבה
becomes a ת
.
