While soup in Hebrew is מרק
, stew is נזיד
.
For example:
גולאש הוא נזיד הונגרי ממש טעים.
Gulash is a really tasty Hungarian stew.

And:
נזיד הוא כמו מרק אבל יותר סמיך.
Stew is like soup but thicker.

When I googled מתכונות נזיד
– stew recipes, I found mostly vegetarian examples such as נזיד עדשים
– lentil stew and נזיד ארטישוק ירושלמי
– Jerusalem artichoke stew. However, נזיד
can also be meaty, as in the aforementioned Hungarian dish… as well the traditional Shabbat favorite featured in today’s video.
