In 2008 I founded a Hebrew language-learning program, an אולפן (ulpan), that would shift the industry of Hebrew instruction from bookish academic study to practical conversational-skill training. The idea was to stop beating around the bush and instead get straight to the point. I named it אולפן לעניין – Ulpan La-Inyan.
לעניין means literally “to the matter”. Here it is in context:
בואו ניגש ישר לעניין.
Let’s get (approach) straight to the point.
לעניין is related to מעניין – interesting and מעוניין – interested.
