Right is ימין
, as in:
הוא עומד בצד ימין של הכביש.
He’s standing on the right-hand side of the road.
To the right, however, is ימינה
, where the ה- ending indicates direction.
For example:
בכיכר, פנה ימינה.
At the roundabout, turn right.
Now, פנה
means turn when speaking to a male. To a female, it’s פני
– and to more than one person it’s פנו
.
What about turning left? שמאל
is left, so that שמאלה
is to the left. So how would we tell a group of people to turn left? פנו שמאלה
.
