To read between the lines in Hebrew is לקרוא בין השורות
. This idiom uses the same simple verb לקרוא
that we use for reading books or newspapers.
This is a universal skill. Whether you are reading a complicated email from a colleague or trying to figure out the subtext in a piece of literature, we are always trying to understand what is not being said explicitly.
In context:
לפעמים צריך לקרוא בין השורות כדי להבין את הכוונה האמיתית שלו.
Sometimes (one) needs to read between the lines to understand his true intention.
The expression לקרוא בין השורות
— to read between the lines is a Level 6 expression in the Ulpan La-Inyan system.
