אוֹפֶה
The person making the bread and pastries is the אופה
(a man) or אופָה
(a woman) — the baker. The verb לאפות
– to bake – belongs to the
simple
family.
Whether it’s a professional baker in a boutique shop or a soldier who managed to bake something sweet for the unit on the front lines, the אופה
provides the ultimate comfort food. Usefully, the word אופה
works for both the profession and the action (he/she bakes).
In context:
האופה בשכונה שלנו אופה את החלות הכי טובות בארץ.
The baker (a male) in our neighborhood makes the best challahs in the country.
This is a
Level 4
word in the Ulpan La-Inyan system.
