In Hebrew, we use the same word for a ball, a pill, and a bullet: כדור
.
It sounds a bit strange at first—how can a soccer ball and a bullet be the same word? It’s all about the shape. Back in the day, bullets were round lead balls. Even though modern bullets are shaped differently, the name stuck.
If you want to be very specific about the metal projectile itself (the part that flies out), the word is קליע
(related to קולע
– hits the spot), but in everyday life—and especially in the army—everyone just says כדור
.
In context:
הוא מצא כדור ישן מהמלחמה כשהוא טייל בצפון.
He found an old bullet from the war while he was hiking in the north.
