The Hebrew word for to copy is להעתיק
, a הפעיל verb. Nevertheless, a copy machine is מכונת צילום
– literally, a photography machine (or photocopier).
In context:
הנייר תמיד נתקע במכונת הצילום שלנו.
The paper always gets stuck in our copy machine.

This phrase מכונת צילום
takes the word מכונה
– machine – and turns the ה
into a ת
, because this is a “machine of photography.” The ה
becoming a ת
expresses this “of” relationship, which in Hebrew we call סמיכות
(“juxtaposition,” or the construct state).
