When you need to decide, you use the verb להחליט. Like להצליח – to succeed, this also belongs to the הפעיל family, coming from the root ח.ל.ט.
In these times of uncertainty regarding the threats from Iran, many are forced to make tough decisions every day. Interestingly, the same root gives us the word מוחלט, which means absolute or total (“decidedly” final). מוחלט belongs to the פועל family.
In context:
היה קשה להחליט אם לקיים את האירוע או לבטל בגלל המצב.
It was hard to decide whether to hold the event or cancel because of the situation.
The word להחליט — to decide is a Level 3 word in the Ulpan La-Inyan system.
