When you need to decide, you use the verb להחליט
. Like להצליח
to succeed, this also belongs to the הפעיל family, coming from the root ח.ל.ט
.
In these times of uncertainty regarding the threats from Iran, many are forced to make tough decisions every day. Interestingly, the same root gives us the word מוחלט
, which means absolute or total (“decidedly” final). מוחלט
belongs to the פועל family.
In context:
היה קשה להחליט אם לקיים את האירוע או לבטל בגלל המצב.
It was hard to decide whether to hold the event or cancel because of the situation.
The word להחליט
— to decide is a Level 3 word in the Ulpan La-Inyan system.
