in Hebrew and location is מיקום
, you might expect the word for “to locate” to be למקם
. But that word was already taken, so instead Hebrew borrowed from the Aramaic word for place – אתר
– to create the פיעל verb לאתר
.
For example:
הם הצליחו לאתר את האונייה?
Have they managed to locate the ship?

, as used in Modern Hebrew, also means site – physical or in the cloud:
