If place is מקום in Hebrew and location is מיקום, you might expect the word for “to locate” to be למקם. But that word was already taken, so instead Hebrew borrowed from the Aramaic word for place – אתר – to create the פיעל verb לאתר.

אתר, as used in Modern Hebrew, also means site – physical or in the cloud:
