How do you say to pour? Depends on what you’re pouring.
If it’s a drink for someone to consume, use למזוג
, a simple verb
For example:
יוני, תמזוג לי בבקשה כוס יין.
Yoni, pour me a glass of wine, please.

If it’s any other fluid substance you want to get from a container to a lower place, use לשפוך
, also a simple verb:
הוא שפך את המים ואת הסבון על הרצפה והתחיל לנקות.
He poured the water and the soap on the floor and started cleaning.

You can also use לשפוך
to mean to spill something that’s no longer desirable, as in:
אחרי שבועיים במקרר סוף סוף שפכתי את המרק לתוך הכיור.
After two weeks in the fridge I finally spilled the soup into the drain.

If, however, it’s rain that’s pouring, Hebrew uses a totally different expression. Watch today’s video for that.
