The word for “to come” is לבוא
, a simple verb that you’ll hear in almost any Hebrew conversation. It finds its way into all kinds of expressions, one of which is בוא נגיד
– “let’s say” (to a male, or בואי נגיד
to a female).
This is a combination of בוא/בואי
– come, and נגיד
– we will say. It’s like you’re saying to the person you’re talking to: “come, let’s say this is the case.”
In context:
בוא נגיד שאני מגיע בשמונה, זה בסדר?
Let’s say I arrive at eight, is that okay?
The word נגיד
is form of the הפעיל verb להגיד
meaning “to say.” Another word for “to say” is לומר
, a simple verb of the root א.מ.ר
, so you might also hear people saying בוא נאמר
for “let’s say.”
