To rescue, in Hebrew, is להציל, a הפעיל verb.
For example:
הם הצליחו להציל את הכלב מהבית הבוער.
They managed to rescue the dog from the burning house.
There are plenty of professionals who rescue people, from doctors and nurses to search and rescue teams. But only one of them is called a rescuer in Hebrew – מציל if he’s male and מצילה if she’s female.
For example:
הקיץ היא עבדה כמצילה בבריכה.
This summer she worked as a lifeguard at the pool.
While להציל is TO rescue, הצלה (like the organization) means rescue in general.
